Edit on GitHub

The people, projects and communities the beacon builds on: libraries, testers, and the open source ecosystem.

Aegis-Beacon was created and is maintained by Leonardo Galli (GitHub: Leo-Galli/Aegis-Beacon). No project is an island: the beacon also stands on the shoulders of libraries, datasheets, communities and testers, and this page names them.

The build toolchainPlatformIO and the Arduino ecosystem

The radio heritage

The SX1262 comes from Semtech, whose datasheets and app notes (see SX1262 Datasheet Notes) define the radio’s behavior. The Morse standard the beacon transmits is over a century old and belongs to no one: it is the most battle-tested signaling protocol in existence.

The communities

  • The amateur radio community, whose operating traditions and regulatory framework shape the beacon’s legal design
  • The mountain rescue community, whose field practice this wiki documents
  • The open source hardware community, for the culture of sharing build knowledge

The testers

The people who took prototypes into the field, broke them, and reported what broke: their findings are embedded in the troubleshooting pages, the firmware fixes, and the roadmap.
